The gold used to make the golden calf came from the jewelry of the Israelites. According to the biblical account in the Book of Exodus, after leaving Egypt, the Israelites asked the Egyptians for items of silver and gold, as well as clothing. This wealth, given to them by the Egyptians, was later used by Aaron to fashion the golden calf at Mount Sinai.
